Here we are on the opposite side of the halfway mark of this 6 week makeover project! Just two more weeks to go! But if you really think about it less than that when you figure time to photograph the space and put together a post… yikes. I’d better get myself in gear.
Sometimes I look outside at my progress and think what on Earth have I got done? Anything? There is still so much to do before this space is complete. But really considering last weeks set backs, and all the rain we have gotten since then… I’m going to call this week a success in terms of productivity.
Although, I can’t take too much credit for the work done this week. If you recall last week’s post, I was left a little overwhelmed, realizing that I was in over my head getting that deck stripped. Well, after much thought and research, and many discussions with my parents, I decided to hire someone to come and strip and stain the deck for me. With work schedules between myself, my roommate, and my parents, we really just didn’t have the extra time it was going to take to make sure this process was done correctly so that it would last me many more years.
I used Thumbtack to find local deck refinishers in my area. I received 3 different bids within a few days. Bob was out within a few days to start on my project! The turnaround time was more than I could’ve ever asked for! Bob was even out in the pouring rain one morning power washing off all that paint, leaving me very impressed with his dedication and hard work.
Folks! We have a completely stripped deck! The next steps are to replace a couple of boards, sand down the rough areas, and have it stained hopefully by next week! Here’s to hoping this rain will give us a break for awhile.
This week I also picked up a few outdoor pillows for the couch. This deck will definitely not be lacking in the color or pattern categories! Very much my style.
The two pink pillows are from World Market and the two blues are from Home Goods. I don’t think I can pick a favorite honestly.
As I was grocery shopping at my local Wally World I spotted this cute little Staghorn Fern that I couldn’t pass up. I have been trying to avoid plant shopping until after the stain is finished so that they aren’t in the way, but there was only one left and I couldn’t leave him behind. Definitely checking out some fun mounting options for this guy!
….and researching how to not kill him in a week… I should probably add that to my to do list.
So let’s check out how that to do list is coming along while we are on the subject..
- Stain deck
- purchase and pot plants
- Mulch/plant at the bottom of the steps
- String lights
- Fire pit
- 2 more chairs
- Pole for hammock
- ______________(insert everything I’m forgetting)
Thanks for checking in again this week! In case you missed the first 3 weeks, I’ve linked them below for handy access! Be sure to check out what the other participants are up to!
